About us

Our Journey

My name is Emma and I am the mother to two gorgeous boys and a beautiful little girl. Earlier this year our daughter was diagnosed with DDH. She had been referred to the ortho clinic when our midwife found a click in her hips on her day 2 check. She was scanned at 12 weeks and given the all clear, but we were bought back for a final check at 6 months. From what we thought was just a formality turned into a whole new experience and way of life for us! At her 6 month appointment after doing the x-ray they found she had bilateral hip dysplasia and was booked to get her spica cast within the week.

When our daughter was diagnosed I knew next to nothing about DDH, but as I learnt more I realised a few things; 1) its more common then you realise and 2) there is actually a real cool and supportive community of parents out there (see support page for links to groups).

Another thing that I found was that in NZ there are minimal clothing options for kids that have to wear harnesses or spica casts. We also noticed that the clothing options that we could find were either boring or rather expensive!

So I decided that it was time to change that!  We are wanting to give parents stylish modern baby clothes that fit DDH babies so your little one can continue to look adorable with that hefty cast. As we grow our little business I want to bring in more affordable options for the many items you might need along your DDH journey.

Where did the name come from?

Where does the name Baby Bee come from? Its a nick name we fondly use for our little girl who is currently on her journey towards healthy hips, and we thought she was the perfect inspiration for the name!

The logo

The logo for Baby Bee clothing was designed, with love by an amazing friend of mine. If you tilt your head to the left, the honeycomb is the shape of hips and the yellow represents our little bee being our sunshine!

Our clothing

Our clothes are designed and sold in New Zealand, and lovingly made by our team in China. We made every effort to ensure our supplier shared our ethos, this included fair working conditions and ensuring the materials are ethically sourced.
